Norfolk Southern Railway Corp. Donates Track Material
06 April 2008

Norfolk Southern Railway Corporation has agreed to donate track and track material to the Fort Miles restoration project.  Included in the donation is 85 relay ties, 120 track feet of rail, joint bars, bolts, washers, nuts, tie plates, spikes, and anchors.  Special thanks goes to David Taylor of NSCORP for coordinating the donation.

The track material will be used for the planned 8-inch railway gun exhibit.  Fort Miles has already secured the proper depressed-center railway car for mounting the weapon and will be transporting it to the site shortly.  The weapon and carriage assembly was transported from the Dahlgren Naval Surface Warfare Facility to Fort Miles on 26 May 2006.   The exhibit construction is slated for this summer.
